Beautiful Chinese blue and white plate from the Yongzheng period (18th century), with a sophisticated performance from the famous novel "Romance of the Western Chamber".

The decoration depicts graceful figures in a garden pavilion, framed by rich floral motifs. This iconic literary-inspired decoration was particularly prized in the 18th century and remains among the highlights of Chinese export porcelain today.

Origin & meaning
Originating from a Groningen manor farm where Chinese porcelain was actively collected through the VOC in the 18th and 19th centuries. Purchased at Klinkhamer Auction House in Groningen. This makes this plate not only a fine work of art, but also a historical collector's item that makes the trade routes between China and the Netherlands tangible.
