Beautiful Chinese blue and white plate from the Yongzheng period (18th century), with a sophisticated performance from the famous novel "Romance of the Western Chamber".
The decoration shows figures in a garden pavilion, framed by an ornate floral border. This literary theme is among the most popular decorations on Chinese export porcelain and illustrates the refined tastes of collectors in the 18th century.
Origin & meaning
This plate comes from a Groningen manor farm where Chinese porcelain was actively collected through the VOC in the 18th and 19th centuries. Purchased at Klinkhamer Auction House in Groningen. This provenance gives the plate a special historical value and makes it extra attractive to collectors.
