Description
Beautiful Chinese blue and white plate from the Qianlong period (18th century), with a vivid depiction of figures in a garden surrounded by lush flowers.
This large plate (28.4 cm) exudes the elegance of Chinese export porcelain: the contrast between the deep cobalt blue and the refined brushwork attracts immediate attention. The combination of human figures and floral decor gives the piece a warm, almost narrative feel. A plate that is not only historically valuable, but also shines as an eye-catcher in any collection.
Origin & meaning
Blue and white porcelain from the Qianlong period (1736-1795) was widely exported to Europe and found its way into distinguished households. This plate is not only a fine example of that tradition, with its garden scene and floral decoration, but also has a special provenance: it comes from a Groninger manor farm where VOC porcelain was collected in the 18th and 19th centuries. Purchased from Veilinghuis Klinkhamer in Groningen, it forms a tangible link between maritime trade and Dutch collecting culture.
