Description

Charming Chinese Canton plate with family representation in famille rose palette.

This plate shows a delicate scene of a lady with child, a young boy and a figure in a window, framed by a landscape with trees and houses. The rim is decorated with cartouches of blossoms and rock motifs, set against a pink pointillated background, typical of Canton porcelain from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Despite the damage, the plate remains an attractive example of Chinese export porcelain.

Origin & meaning
Canton porcelain was produced in the Guangzhou (Canton) region and was loved in Europe for its vivid representations and colourful decorations. The depicted scenes with ladies, children and houses reflect Chinese ideals of harmonious family life. This plate belongs to the so-called "mandarin decors", popular for export to Europe.

This plate makes a nice combination with the other Chinese Canton plate with tangerine decor - Ø 23.5 cm which is also available in the webshop.
We also have a Set of two Canton plates - family scene - Ø 23.5 cm
