Description

Beautiful Chinese Canton plate with tangerine decor in vibrant famille rose colours.

This fine porcelain plate depicts a sophisticated scene of mandarins and children in a landscape with architecture. The setting is framed by cartouches of blossoms and rocks, set against a pink pointillated background typical of Canton porcelain from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The colours are still particularly fresh and vibrant, with beautiful details in the figures' clothing and facial expressions.

Origin & meaning
Canton porcelain, also known as "Canton famille rose", was manufactured in large quantities in the Guangzhou (Canton) region and was loved in Europe for its vibrant colours and narrative scenes. The mandarin décor - centred on Chinese courtiers and children - symbolises status, scholarship and family life. For collectors, it represents a classic example of the sophisticated export art produced by China during the Qing dynasty.

This plate makes a nice combination with the other Chinese Canton plate - family scene - Ø 23 cm which is also available in the webshop.
We also have a Set of two Canton plates - family scene - Ø 23.5 cm
