Coveted Chinese export plate with Pronk design 'La Dame au Parasol', Qianlong period.
This plate bears Cornelis Pronk's famous design: the lady with parasol, her servant, birds along the water - executed in the Imari variation blue-red-gold. Thanks to its refined craftsmanship and bright enamel colours, this specimen is a fine illustration of the VOC-related export tradition.
Origin & meaning.
Acquired from Korst van der Hoeff. Pronk designs were commissioned through the VOC in the 1730s, and 'La Dame au Parasol' is among the best-known motifs. This specimen stands out for its beautiful finish and excellent condition.
Size & condition.
Diameter 24 cm, height 2.2 cm. Condition: excellent, with only a few minute edge chips appropriate to its age (see photos).
