Description
Special Dayak amulet from Borneo (Indonesia), depicting a crouching human figure bringing an object to its mouth - possibly a flute or mouth harp. This detail makes the amulet rare and gives it a strong spiritual charge.
Origin & meaning
Dayak amulets served as personal protectors and ritual objects. The crouching posture refers to concentration or trance, while holding and playing a possible musical instrument may symbolise communication with the spirit world and invoking protection through music and rhythm. This makes the piece particularly valuable within the Dayak tradition. The amulet was purchased from De Zwaan auction house.
