Intriguing Dayak amulet from Borneo (Indonesia), a small figure holding an object in front of its chest. Despite its compact size of 6.2 cm, this amulet has a powerful appearance.
Origin & meaning
The pose in which a figure holds an object is interpreted as a symbol of strength, protection or holding ritual knowledge. This makes the amulet especially valuable within the Dayak tradition. Bought from De Zwaan auction house, mounted on a plinth.
Dimensions & condition
Height 6.2 cm (without plinth), 8 cm (incl. plinth). Width 1.5 cm, depth 1.2 cm. Good condition with dark patina and appropriate signs of use.
