Large Dayak amulet from Borneo (Indonesia), depicting a human figure with the arms wrapped around the belly. At 12.5 cm, an exceptionally large size for a carrier amulet.
Origin & meaning
The pose with the arms around the belly symbolises protection, self-control and strength. Large specimens like this were rarely worn personally, but rather kept as protective power objects in the home or at rituals. Originating from the Dayak, purchased from De Zwaan auction house.
Dimensions & condition
Height 12.5 cm (incl. plinth). Width 2 cm, depth 2 cm. Good condition with signs of use and dark patina.
