Description
Beautiful 18th-century famille rose plate from China, with vibrant hand-painted decor that includes a dog, flowers and traditional figures.
Origin & meaning
Manufactured in the 18th century, during the Qing Dynasty, this porcelain plate belongs to the much-loved famille rose porcelain with its refined, multi-coloured enamel decor. The depiction with a dog and floral elements was often associated with prosperity, loyalty and domestic harmony in China. The plate additionally shows cuisson marks on the underside - a characteristic firing process effect of antique Chinese porcelain - and has light wear to the decor with a small fritting to the rim (see photos). Diameter: 23.2 cm.
