Description

Charming Fürstenberg Commedia dell'Arte statue of Pierrot, 20th century, with refined details and cheerful appearance.

This elegant porcelain figure depicts Pierrot, a beloved character from the Commedia dell'Arte theatre. The statue was manufactured by the famous manufactory Fürstenberg, marked at the bottom with the blue factory mark. In gold is the inscription: "Pierrot (Modell von Feilner) aus der Commedia dell'arte Nr 80 handgemalt H. Hagedorn".

Origin & meaning
The figures from the Commedia dell'Arte were wildly popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Fürstenberg reissued them in luxurious, hand-painted versions in the 20th century. Pierrot, recognisable by his white costume and melancholic pose, is a classic symbol of both humour and melancholy. The piece was designed after a model by Feilner and hand-painted by Hagedorn, increasing its collector's value.
