Refined Japanese bronze Amida Buddha statue from the 19th century, with serene appeal and exquisite details that will delight collectors.

Origin & meaning:
Sourced from De Zwaan auction house in Amsterdam (2023). The Amida Buddha, also called the Buddha of Infinite Light, is an important symbol in Japanese Pure Land Buddhism and represents compassion and enlightenment. This bronze statue bears an apocryphal Yongle mark (大明永樂年製) on the back, a tribute to the famous Ming emperor, often applied by Japanese bronze casters in the 19th century.

Size & condition:
Height 24 cm, width 16 cm. Executed in dark patina with finely worked robes and carefully modelled curls in the hair. The statue is in excellent condition, with only slight signs of age appropriate to its age. See photos for details.
