Description
Charming set of 6 Cantonese tea bowls with saucers from ca. 1900, delicately decorated with flowers and birds in vibrant famille rose colours.
This six-piece set showcases the sophistication of Cantonese porcelain around 1900. Each bowl and saucer is richly painted with flowering peonies, elegant branches and graceful birds. The warm shades of red, green and yellow stand out beautifully on the bright white background, giving this set a cheerful, decorative look.
Origin & meaning
Canton porcelain was one of the most popular exports to Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This set comes from a Groningen manor house where porcelain was collected through the VOC in the 18th and 19th centuries. Purchased from Veilinghuis Klinkhamer in Groningen, this ensemble is a wonderful example of how Chinese export art found its way into Dutch interiors.
