Silver nautilus shell table pieces are among the most imaginative objects in late-19th-century European silversmithing. They connect naturalia and craftsmanship in a way that directly harks back to the tradition of the Wunderkammer: the cabinet in which nature, science and luxury came together.<\/p>

Hanau developed into an international centre for high-quality fantasy silver in the second half of the 19th century. Silversmiths consciously turned to Renaissance and Baroque forms, combining historical styles with a technically very high level of finishing.<\/p>

Table pieces with nautilus shell were ideally intended for cabinets, collectors' rooms and representative interiors. The exotic shell acted as a wonder of nature, while the silver mount demonstrated the virtuosity of the goldsmith.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This pair was manufactured by Gebr\u00fcder Dingeldein<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, one of the most respected silver studios in Hanau. Their work is known for its combination of technical perfection and distinct sculpturalism.<\/p>

The silver swans display an exceptional level of detail: finely engraved feathers, carefully chiselled floral motifs on the base and coloured cabochons that give the whole a lively, almost theatrical appearance. The presence of pseudo-guildmarks and the clear Dingeldein hallmark (oval with rad motif and letter D) indicate typical Hanau work from the period circa 1880-1910. These objects were produced for an international audience of collectors and connoisseurs who valued both historical references and luxury execution.<\/p>
