Sumptuously illustrated Sotheby’s auction catalogue Chinese and Japanese Ceramics and Works of Art of 17 December 1986, featuring art objects from the collection of A.A. Luyt, amongst others.

The catalogue presents a wide selection of Chinese and Japanese ceramics and other works of art. The combination of different collecting areas makes the publication interesting as a visual reference work for Asian art and ceramics. 374 objects were auctioned in this auction with number 447.

A special section is formed by the lots from the collection of A.A. Luyt. As a result, the catalogue documents not only Sotheby’s offering in 1986, but also a historic private collection of Asian art.

The lots are illustrated and accompanied by English-language catalogue descriptions providing information on materials, shape, decoration, dating and provenance, among other things. The catalogue thereby offers useful comparative material for Chinese and Japanese ceramics and other works of art.

Due to the combination of Chinese and Japanese art, the early auction date and the presence of objects from the A.A. Luyt collection, this catalogue forms interesting documentation of the international market for Asian art in the nineteen-eighties.

The auction Chinese and Japanese Ceramics and Works of Art took place at Sotheby's on 17 December 1986 in Amsterdam.
