Origin & meaning
Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining) was one of the most influential European artists ever to work in China. Under three emperors - Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong - he became a court painter and architect. His work is of great interest today to sinologists, art historians and collectors of Chinese imperial porcelain and painting.
