Luxurious Sotheby’s auction catalogue of the important collection of Chinese art of Sir Quo-Wei Lee, featuring exceptional Ming and Qing porcelain and jade. The collection was auctioned at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on 3 October 2018 and belonged to one of Hong Kong's foremost collectors of 20th-century Chinese art.

The Sir Quo-Wei Lee collection

Sir Quo-Wei Lee (1918-2013) was a prominent Hong Kong businessman, philanthropist, and an early and prominent member of the prestigious Min Chiu Society. His interest in Chinese art developed at a young age and was partly shaped by the well-known art dealer and collector Edward T. Chow.

Lee built up a high-quality collection with a strong emphasis on imperial Chinese porcelain and jade from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Many pieces were acquired at Sotheby’s in London and Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.

The auction

Sotheby’s Hong Kong presented in this single-owner sale 48 carefully selected works from the collection. Highlights included important Ming and Qing blue and white porcelain and refined Chinese jade, including works from the Yongle, Jiajing, Yongzheng and Qianlong periods.

Due to the extensive descriptions, provenance, literature references and large colour illustrations, the catalogue is an excellent reference work for collectors and dealers in high-end Chinese porcelain and jade.
