This refined wooden Songo statue from Angola depicts a standing female figure in subdued but elevated pose. The dark, warm patina and signs of age lend ritual weight. Metal earrings, neck ring and ankle ring emphasise prestige and spiritual authority. Songo statues were traditionally used in ancestor worship to bring about fertility, protection and prosperity.
