Monumental five-part publication of Ornithologia Neerlandica – The Birds of the Netherlands by Prof. Dr E.D. van Oort, published between 1922 and 1939 and illustrated with 407 colour plates after drawings by M.A. Koekkoek.

This voluminous ornithological publication is regarded as one of the most important and finest Dutch bird books of the twentieth century. In it, Van Oort describes the bird species found in the Netherlands, accompanied by exceptionally well-produced illustrations based on drawings by the renowned animal painter Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek.

The set consists of the five main volumes and contains a total of 407 full-page colour plates in collotype, after drawings by M.A. Koekkoek. The volumes are uniformly bound in dark green half-leather with raised bands and gilt-decorated spines.

Ornithologia Neerlandica is also highly valued internationally as a standard ornithological work and as an illustrated bird book. J. Balis described the work in Of various plumage. Ten centuries of bird books as being among the finest bird books from the period between the two world wars.
