Sumptuously illustrated Christie's auction catalogue of The Feng Wen Tang Collection of Bamboo Carvings and Furniture, an important private collection of Chinese bamboo carvings and classical Chinese furniture. The collection was auctioned at Christie's Hong Kong on 3 June 2015 and comprised a carefully curated group of refined Chinese works of art.

De Feng Wen Tang Collection

The Feng Wen Tang Collection was built up over many years and comprised high-quality Chinese bamboo carvings and furniture. The collection included finely carved brush pots, sculptures and other scholar's objects, alongside classical Chinese furniture made from precious hardwoods such as huanghuali and zitan.

The catalogue provides an interesting overview of the Chinese tradition of bamboo carving and furniture making, with detailed descriptions, provenance and large colour illustrations.

The auction

Christie’s Hong Kong auctioned The Feng Wen Tang Collection of Bamboo Carvings and Furniture on 3 June 2015. The 74 lots, numbered 2801 to 2874 inclusive, comprise works from various periods of Chinese art history.

Objects from this collection still appear on the international art market today with reference to the Feng Wen Tang provenance, making the catalogue a useful reference work for collectors and dealers in Chinese bamboo carvings and classical Chinese furniture.
