Description
Sumptuously illustrated auction catalogue by Woolley & Wallis for the auction Fine Chinese Paintings & Works of Art, held on 1 July 2020 in Salisbury.
The catalogue presents an extensive selection of Chinese painting and other art objects from various periods. The combination of paintings and diverse art objects provides an interesting overview of different styles, techniques and traditions within Chinese art.
The individual lots have been extensively photographed in colour and provided with English-language catalogue descriptions. The paintings give attention to, amongst other things, the artist, subject matter, technique, dating, inscriptions, signatures and seals. Where available, provenance, previous collections and relevant literature are also mentioned.
For collectors of Chinese painting, the images of signatures, artist's seals, calligraphic inscriptions and other details are of particular interest. These make the catalogue useful as visual comparative material when studying and identifying Chinese paintings.
Besides painting, the catalogue includes various other Chinese art objects. The publication thus forms both a practical reference work and interesting documentation of the supply on the British market for Chinese art in 2020.
