Description

Kraak Porcelain: A Moment in the History of Trade is the first comprehensive monograph entirely devoted to Kraakporselein: the characteristic Chinese blue-and-white export porcelain that was shipped in large quantities to Europe from the late sixteenth to the seventeenth century.

Maura Rinaldi covers both the historical background and development of the Chinese ceramic industry as well as the international trade routes through which the porcelain ended up in places like the Netherlands. In addition, she extensively discusses the forms, decorative motifs, classifications, and imitations of Kraakporcelain.

The publication is richly illustrated with hundreds of color and black-and-white images, maps, and drawings and serves as an important reference work for collectors, dealers, and enthusiasts of Chinese export porcelain and Asian ceramics.
