Authentic Namchi / Namji doll from Cameroon with beads and shell, a powerful collectible with rich details and symbolism.

This hand-carved wooden doll measures 29 cm high, 14 cm wide and 7.5 cm deep. The doll is covered with carefully applied beads in shades of red, white and orange and carries a shell on its arm as a special detail. The stylised head with sober lines and high coiffure gives the statue a powerful look. Please note: this specimen cannot stand on its own.

Origin & meaning
Namchi (also Namji) dolls from Cameroon traditionally served as protective figures and fertility symbols. Girls were often given such dolls as preparation for motherhood, with beads and shells symbolising status, beauty and spiritual power. This specimen, with its colourful beads and shell detail, is a fine example of this tradition.
