Copper mask from Ivory Coast with beautiful, natural patina and serene facial expression.
The mask has closed eyes, an elongated nose and subtle mouth opening. On top are graceful braided hair strands; along the edge are perforations for traditional fastening. Green oxidation and dark discolouration form a vibrant patina that gives the surface character.
Origin & meaning
Masks like these were part of ceremonial parades and rituals in Côte d'Ivoire. The brass design and the wearing openings indicate actual use. Provenance: purchased from De Zwaan auction house.

Condition: good, authentic condition with even patina; slight signs of use and minor oxidation spots appropriate to its age.
