Description

Lavishly illustrated French auction catalogue by Origine Expert, Alain Castor and Laurent Hara, dedicated to tribal art from Africa, Oceania and Asia and published for the auction of 13 March 2015.

The catalogue presents a varied selection of masks, sculptures, ritual objects and other ethnographic artefacts from various cultures and regions. African art forms an important part, alongside objects from Oceania and Asia.

The individual lots have been extensively photographed in colour and accompanied by French-language catalogue descriptions. Attention is also paid to cultural provenance, materials, dimensions and stylistic characteristics, among other things. Where available, additional information regarding the provenance and background of the objects is also provided.

Due to the wide variety of object types and regional styles, the catalogue is particularly useful as visual comparative material. The many detailed images make it possible to study the characteristics of masks, sculptures and ritual objects side by side, while at the same time offering an interesting picture of the French tribal art market in 2015.

Origine Expert specialises in the valuation and authentication of tribal and non-Western art. The catalogue therefore serves not only as documentation of the items on offer, but also as a practical reference work for collectors and enthusiasts of African, Oceanic and Asian tribal art.

The auction took place on 13 March 2015.
