Song dynasty ceramics

The Song dynasty (960-1279) is regarded as one of the great golden ages of Chinese ceramic art. During this period, several famous kiln complexes and ceramic traditions emerged that would continue to exert a major influence on the further development of Chinese porcelain and stoneware.

This first part focuses mainly on Northern China. Among other things, Ru, Jun, Ding, Yaozhou and Cizhou wares are discussed in detail. In addition, the book includes ceramics from the Jin, Liao and Western Xia periods.

Collection of the Palace Museum

The publication is based on the important ceramic collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing. The included objects are extensively documented and are illustrated with high-quality colour photography.

The book thus constitutes a valuable specialist reference work for collectors, dealers, and researchers of Chinese ceramics, and in particular ceramics from the Song period.
