Song dynasty ceramics

The Song dynasty (960-1279) is regarded as one of the great golden ages of Chinese ceramic art. During this period, several famous kiln complexes and ceramic traditions emerged that would continue to exert a major influence on the further development of Chinese porcelain and stoneware.

This second part focuses primarily on Southern China. Guan, Ge, Yue and Longquan wares are discussed in detail, amongst others, as are ceramics from major kiln complexes in Jingdezhen, Jian and Jizhou.

Collection of the Palace Museum

The publication is based on the important ceramic collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing. This volume includes 256 objects, featuring refined examples of Southern Song court ceramics and ceramics from various important private kilns.

The combination of high-quality colour photography and specialist documentation makes the book a valuable reference work for collectors, dealers and researchers of Chinese ceramics, and in particular ceramics from the Song period.
