Description

Unique Mambila Tadep statue with slender proportions and rich, tri-coloured dot decoration on head and body - an expressive ritual object.

This Tadep ancestor figure of the Mambila (Cameroon/Nigeria) shows a powerful, stylised formal language with geometrically carved features. The surface is decorated with red, white and blue dots, visible both on the head and body. Notable are the red mouth and ears, which further emphasise the expressive power and ritual significance of this sculpture. The deep patina and colour contrasts make this sculpture visually special and sought-after among collectors.

Origin & meaning
Tadep statues served as protective ancestor figures within the Mambila culture and played a role in Suaga rituals around protection, fertility and harmony.
