Description
Unique Lobi bronze statue of a rider on horseback from Burkina Faso, with fine details and a weathered patina. An authentic example of West African bronze art.
Origin & meaning
This bronze figurine comes from the Lobi culture of Burkina Faso, where equestrian statues symbolise status, power and spiritual protection. Horses were rare and were associated with wealth and leadership in the Lobi tradition. Equestrian figures often served as ceremonial objects and played a role in ancestor worship and ritual protection. The figurine is made via the cire perdue (lost wax) technique, an ancient method that makes each creation unique.
Dimensions & condition
The statue measures 7.5cm high, 7.5cm wide and 2.5cm deep. Condition: nice surface with natural patina and slight corrosion marks appropriate to its age. The spear and horse details are clearly visible; minor blemishes due to manual casting.
