This authentic Lobi sculpture depicts a man with an understated yet powerful look. The carving has taken full advantage of the wood's beautiful natural texture, giving the sculpture a unique vibrancy and depth. The facial features are sharply and geometrically carved, with large eyes and a characteristic mouth.
Origin & meaning
The sculpture comes from a private collection in Castricum and represents the Lobi culture from Burkina Faso. Lobi statues were traditionally made as protective figures (bateba), which played a role in ritual and spiritual practices. Their function ranged from household protection to guidance in daily life.

Height: 25 cm (without plinth) - Width: 6.5 cm - Depth: 5.5 cm.
Condition: The sculpture is old, with obvious signs of use and wear appropriate to its age and ritual use. It stands on a plinth, included with the object.
