Origin & meaning
Originating from a pre-1990 German private collection and later offered through Oriental Art Auctions. In Roman times, the panther was often associated with the god Bacchus (Dionysus), and served as a symbol of wild energy and the forces of nature. Small bronze animal figures like this specimen probably served as votive gifts in temples or as protective house amulets.
