The sphere exhibits the typical internal haze and crystalline cloud patterns characteristic of high-grade amethysts. When rotated, it catches light in different ways, revealing subtle luster reflections. Its condition is excellent, with only natural growth lines highlighting its authenticity.
Origin & meaning
Bought at De Zwaan auction house, from Lot 460 of the Christie's South Kensington auction Style & Spirit (25 September 2007). Amethyst has been known for centuries as a protective stone in interiors, and this large sphere perfectly complements historical Wunderkammer presentations.
