Description
A fascinating Kambaba Jasper sphere with deep green hues and distinctive dark ‘eye’ structures - this 896-gram Wunderkammer mineral is a stunning example of this particular fossil rock type from Madagascar.
The sphere displays beautifully layered green patterns interspersed with dark, round circles created from petrified stromatolites. Gloss and texture alternate beautifully, giving the sphere a vibrant, almost mystical character. The condition is excellent with only natural mineral textures.
Origin & meaning
Bought at De Zwaan auction house, from Lot 460 of the Christie's South Kensington auction Style & Spirit (25 September 2007). Formed from ancient blue-green algal mats (stromatolites), Kambaba Jasper is considered one of the oldest rocks on earth - a perfect historical accent within a Wunderkammer collection.
