Beautiful dendritic agate sphere full of tiny geode openings - this 810-gram globe combines soft chalcedony blues with finely branched dendrites, giving the surface an almost cosmic landscape.
The many natural cavities, lustrous quartz cores and whimsical patterns give the mineral a distinct Wunderkammer look. The texture varies from powder blue and grey to cream and light sand, with translucent agate bands in various places. An ideal object for lovers of texture, mineralogy and aesthetics.
Origin & meaning
Dendritic agate and chalcedony form when manganese or iron inclusions branch into tree-like patterns during crystal growth. This sphere is from Lot 460 of the Christie's South Kensington auction Style & Spirit (25 September 2007), giving it a proven collectible provenance.
