Origin & meaning
This figurine shows Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, with his right hand touching the earth in the bhumisparsamudra. This pose symbolises the moment of enlightenment under the bodhi tree, invoking the earth as a witness. The partly gilded finish emphasises the sacred aura. The underside bears a floral rosette mark, typical of workshops around 1900 in the late Qing period.
Dimensions & condition
Height 11 cm. Good condition with natural patina and signs of use befitting its age. The gilding is partly worn off, giving a characterful look. Underside with flower-shaped workshop mark.
