Description
A beautiful and now scarce catalogue on Chinese porcelain from the last imperial period (Hong-hsien, c. 1916), published by The Princessehof in 1973.
The catalogue was compiled on the occasion of the exhibition “The Last Imperial Porcelain” in June-July 1973. The book shows a selection of eggshell bowls and finely painted vases from the early 20th century, incorporating both colourful decorations and classical figure representations. The reproductions - in colour and black and white - are remarkably clear for a publication from this period.
The cover shows light signs of use and a few small age spots at the edges. The inside pages are neat and complete, with light discolouration appropriate for the age. The binding is firm and the paper is clean, with no loosened or damaged parts.
Origin & meaning
This catalogue is among the early documentations of Hong-hsien and related late imperial porcelain production. Due to the combination of museum provenance, early dating and focus on a niche within Chinese porcelain, this publication is now appreciated by collectors and connoisseurs of Asian ceramics.
