Description

Rare set of three Adan statues from Ghana or Togo, each with its own character and expressive simplicity. These figures, with traces of use and age, are loved by collectors of authentic West African art.

Origin & meaning
The Adan (or Adangbe) belong to the Ewe culture in Ghana and Togo. Their wooden figures often served as ancestor or protection statues and were used in rituals to protect the community or bring prosperity. The simple, stylised shapes and powerful appearance give these statues their unique spiritual significance. This specimen comes from a private collection in Castricum, which enhances the collector's value.
