Description
Feel the charm of a beautiful Chinese porcelain snuff bottle, on which a proud figure rides a stylised tiger. A unique piece that enriches any snuff bottle collection.
Origin & meaning
Manufactured probably late 19th or early 20th century, with fine iron-red painting. The reverse bears an inscription in red characters: "In memory of the Snuff Bottle Association - Jia Yin year (1974)". The object came from the estate of Clemens Merkelbach of Enkhuizen and was purchased from De Zwaan auction house. In China, snuff bottles served both as utensils for finely ground tobacco and as status symbols, with the design often reflecting the owner's social status and personal taste.
