Origin & meaning
This Fon power statue (1960-1970) is from Benin, Ouidah region. The object is made of wood, metal, rope and textile, and bears traces of blue paint. Such power statues, associated with the Fon's vodou tradition, served to protect home and family. The additions of locks and nails symbolise bound and secured forces, while the fabric bundles hide ritual sacrifices. Kokoutse Gone Art Tribal (2022) certificate confirms provenance and authenticity.
