Powerful traditional Hopi Hemis kachina doll with yellow headdress and ritual look.
Origin & meaning: This Hemis kachina is one of the main Hopi figures, often associated with the Niman (Home Dance) ceremony. The striking yellow headdress emphasises the festive and symbolic role of this figure. The piece is part of the collection of Amsterdam architect Ben Spangberg (1929-2024), who carefully built up his collection between 1960 and 1980.
Size & condition: The doll measures 34.5 cm high, 9 cm wide and 7 cm deep. Height includes the feather. Condition consistent with age and use, with a deep patina and authentic traces of ritual handling.
