Powerful Hopi Jaguar kachina with expressive dots and wide ears, 41 cm high including feather. The feline snout, bright yellow eyes and detailed painting give this statue a vibrant look.
Origin & meaning: This type of kachina represents a jaguar or wild cat, a symbol of strength and agility. The dots and distinctive ears emphasise its feline features. Kachinas like this one play a role in ceremonial dances that focus on connection with nature and the spiritual world. This specimen is from the collection of Amsterdam architect Ben Spangberg (1929-2024), collected between 1960 and 1980.
