Description

Eye-catching Hopi kachina in deep black with brightly coloured polka dots, a rare type that immediately attracts attention with its powerful appearance and unique pattern.

Origin & meaning:
This kachina is 37 cm high (including spring), 10 cm wide and 9 cm deep. It belongs to the collection of Amsterdam architect Ben Spangberg (1929-2024), who collected his pieces between 1960 and 1980. The black colour with white and yellow dots symbolises a spiritual force within the Hopi tradition, and makes this sculpture a special collector's item. Figures with such a dot pattern are extremely scarce and rarely offered on the art market.

Dimensions:
Height 37 cm (including spring), width 10 cm, depth 9 cm.
