Description
Ancient Hopi kachina in Zuni style with arms spread out and feathers, a vivid image that immediately evokes the power of Pueblo traditions.
This kachina exudes energy: painted in bright colours, with natural feathers and an original textile skirt. The spread-out arms and alert gaze give the feeling that the figure is captured in the middle of a dance. Although this sculpture cannot stand on its own, it remains a powerful presence that immediately catches the eye.
Origin & meaning
Kachinas are more than works of art - they are bearers of stories and spiritual symbolism. This Zuni-style figure, recognisable by its broad stance and vibrant painting, connects the world of people with that of nature and spirits. The feathers and skirt refer to fertility, rain and abundance - central themes in Pueblo culture. For the Hopi, kachinas provided a way for young and old to pass on rituals and traditions, in a form that captured the imagination.
