Origin & meaning
This Mucaias (Owl Katsina) comes from the Hopi tradition of the Pueblo peoples of Arizona. The owl is seen as a protector in the darkness, a guide with clear insight and a warner against danger. The large, carved wings and red bill are typical, as are the powerful colours green, yellow and red that symbolise protection, growth and life energy. The feather plume enhances the ritual character.
