Origin & meaning
The Sio Salako Mana (Shalako maiden) is one of the most striking kachinas in the Hopi tradition. Her broad pueblo headdress symbolises abundance, fertility and community. With the drum, she plays a role in the ritual dances and processions, with which rain and harmony were depicted. This kachina doll was manufactured in Arizona and was used as an object of representation and learning within the community.
