Origin & meaning
The Sio Salako Mana is a figure originating in the Hopi-Zuni interaction and is often characterised by the horizontal element on top of the head, which this specimen also has. She plays an important role in ceremonial dances and symbolises the cooperation of man and nature, focusing on rain and harvest. This doll shows the typical painting in black, red, white and green, with ornate details and feathers on the body. In one hand she holds a staff, in the other a bundle of feathers, both traditional attributes.
