Powerful Hopi Chakwaina kachina doll with green face, a ceremonial doll depicting the fighting spirit and protection of the Black Warrior kachina.

Origin & meaning
The Chakwaina, also known as the Black Warrior kachina, is one of the best-known figures within the Hopi tradition. He symbolises strength, protection and fighting prowess and plays an important role during the ceremonial dances of the Hopi and related Pueblo peoples. The green face with contrasting details emphasises his spiritual and ritual significance.

Dimensions & condition
Height 45 cm (including spring), width 20 cm, depth 14 cm. From the collection of Amsterdam architect Ben Spangberg (1929-2024), collected between 1960-1980. Condition appropriate for age and ritual use, with a nice patina.
