This Sio Shalako Mana kachina is a female kachina, known for her role in the Shalako ceremonies, which focus on fertility and blessings. The wide headdress and colourful decorations allude to the powerful appearance of this figure. Kachinas play an important role in Hopi spiritual and social traditions and are seen as messengers between people and the spiritual world.

Dimensions & condition
Height 34.5 cm, width 31 cm, depth 10 cm. Provenance: Collection of Amsterdam architect Ben Spangberg (1929-2024), collected between 1960-1980. The kachina is in good condition with traces of age that enhance its authenticity and character.
