Description
Charming Chinese Famille Rose plate with rooster and blossom. At the centre is a proud rooster among flowering branches, framed by delicate floral border decoration. The palette in soft pinks and greens is characteristic of Famille Rose (fencai) porcelain.
Dating & mark
19th century (late Qing) or early 20th century (Republic). Marked on the underside with the auspicious character 喜 (xi, "joy"), a lucky sign often found on festive porcelain.
Origin & meaning
In Chinese imagery, the rooster represents vigilance and protection; blossom refers to prosperity and new beginnings. Plates with this motif were popular in the late Qing/Republic period and were also manufactured for export.

Diameter 24 cm. Porcelain with Famille Rose painting; glaze bright and decoration freshly preserved, with light signs of use appropriate to its age.
