Description

Rare Roman bronze fox with refined details, c. 200 AD.

Origin & meaning
The fox comes from a pre-1990 German private collection and was acquired through Oriental Art Auctions. In Roman culture, the fox was often associated with cunning, cunning and intelligence. Bronze miniatures like this one were used as votive objects, amulets or possibly as decorative elements in domestic shrines. Its excellent condition and recognisable animal form make this object particularly attractive to both the aesthetic collector and the connoisseur of Roman art.
